If you haven’t heard of Audible, you’re probably wondering what the heck it is. Well, stick with me sister, I just might make your mother of a day even better by giving you back the gift of reading, er, well, listening. Either way, you will soon be back in tune with pop culture and the latest New York Times best seller.
If you are like me and love to read but have a spouse and kids with busy schedules, you probably find it hard to set aside time to sit down, open a book, and concentrate. Right? Me too. Most often it’s because I spend my days multitasking, trying to get everything done that needs to be taken care of. I’m a “taxi driver” in the afternoons and evenings, driving my 5 kids to their activities and practices. After the kids are in bed I catch up on laundry, dishes, and picking up around the house so I don’t wake up to a mess and can start my next day a little less chaotic than it already is.
Without Audible I Wouldn’t Read
I love my mom life but I missed reading. That’s when I came across Amazon Audible. I of course already use Amazon prime for pretty much everything. Doesn’t every mom? However I had never tried Audible. So I put out a request for reviews on my social media. I was surprised to get an overwhelming response from fellow moms who raved about the convenience of Audible and how it brought books back into their lives.
So I gave it a try. My opinion? Audible is hands-down the only way I can squeeze in this beloved hobby. With Audible I can listen to inspirational, personal growth, biographical, or fiction books that I like and enjoy and STILL get everywhere I need to be and do everything that needs to be done.
Listen to Audible in the pockets of your day.
I listen to Audible while working out, as well as while doing chores around my house. It’s also perfect to plug into while driving my kids around town, although I can’t guarantee it to be interruption free for you while your kids are in the car 😉
My advice is if you love to read but find that you have given up on that hobby until your kids go off to college, get an Audible subscription and bring books back into your life. Parenthood is a busy stage and might require some modifications from time to time, but that doesn’t mean you need to give up the latest mystery novel. Instead, take a listen and find some incredible books to enjoy through Audible. Plus, your first 30 days are risk free and come with 2 free credits to download any two audio books to get you started.
After that you get 1 credit per month with your subscription, plus 2 free Audible original credits.
Here’s a few books currently in my own audible collection:
Girl, Stop Apologizing. By Rachel Hollis.
I could listen to Rachel’s books daily. Not only is she a great writer, full of encouragement and inspiration for women, but she is fun to listen to as well. She has a knack for narrating and puts plenty of character into her book’s voice. Also, check out her previous book, Girl Wash Your Face.
Everybody Always. By Bob Goff.
If you haven’t heard of Bob Goff or his books before this is a great time to introduce yourself. He’s witty, funny, quirky, and full of life and love. He is enjoyable to listen to as he tells stories from his life that lead to lessons of inspirational love. I would suggest this book, as well as his first one, Love Does.
Big Little Lies. By Liane Moriarty.
I may be behind the curve with this one but it’s the next book cued up in my line up. It has great reviews and is a New York Times best seller. I’m big into personal growth books but decided to mix in a fiction book and since this one has inspired the current HBO series I thought I’d give it a listen.
You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living An Awesome Life. By Jen Sincero.
This book has one heck of a title because it’s one heck of a book. The advice and stories in Sincero’s publication are meant to pull readers out of any funk they find themselves stuck in and get them believing in themselves and their capabilities. If you are on a journey in life and need some motivation, this book will do the trick.
More Audible Best Seller Suggestions
Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens
This intelligent and mysterious plot makes readers curious. With brilliant reviews, a number one spot on the New York Times Best Seller list, and a pick in Reese Witherspoon’s book club I’d venture to bet it’s a good listen.
Game of Thrones, A Song of Ice and Fire, Book 1 by George R. R. Martin
If you have lived in a cave with no connection to the outside world for the last seven seasons of this HBO television series phenom, then a good way to get filled in is by listening to the plot twisting book series.
Every Breath by Nicolas Sparks
Who can really resist one of Sparks’ tales of love. Remember The Notebook? Sigh. I’m a sucker for this kind of hopeless romance novel.
If you can’t find time to read the book on the shelf, listen to it.
I’ll be honest, I still love the feeling of having a book in my hand as I read it, but while I live a stage of my life that is the kind of busy we like to call “beautiful chaos”, I will gladly and gratefully still get my “reading” in with my collection of audio books from Audible. Go ahead, click here and give it a try. I know you’ll enjoy it too.
